Myanmar athletes urged to sweep gold medals in SEA Games

A Myanmar official daily Friday urged the country's athletes to make strenuous efforts to sweep gold medals in every kind of sports constituted in the 27th Southeast Asian Games to be held in December this year.

"The long-awaited 27th SEA Games is drawing near and the government is providing necessary assistance to the athletes," said the New Light of Myanmar in an editorial, adding that Myanmar athletes are under intensive training to achieve success in every kind of sports as being the host country.

The editorial said that Myanmar athletes have undergone joint training for 15 times in Turkey, the Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Laos in 12 kinds of sports.

It said authorities concerned are making all-out efforts for successful holding of the 27th SEA Games.

Local and foreign sponsors were systematically selected for the SEA Games, the editorial added.

Meanwhile, sports grounds and gymnasiums have been completed by cent by cent and are ready to host the competitions.

A total of 1557 medals including 460 gold, 460 silver and 637 bronze will be awarded to athletes in the 27th SEA Games.
